Quincy Jones Trying To Buy Back VIBE Magazine | MUSIC NEWS

Vibe magazine formally announced its closing yesterday, but if Quincy Jones has his way, the magazine that covered hip hop, R&B, and fashion will rise again.

In a new interview with Ebony, Jones—the magazine’s founder—expressed an interest in buying the now-defunct publication.

"I’m trying to buy my magazine back now,” Jones said.

The critically acclaimed producer watched Vibe progress from the sidelines and now admits that he did not always like what he saw. However, he stopped short of calling out names.

“They just messed my magazine all up, but I’m gonna get it back. You better believe it, Imma [sic] take it online because print and all that stuff is over."

While many may be dismayed at Jones proclaiming the death of print, he vows to bring the publication into “this century.”

“The Chicago Tribune, the Seattle Post Intelligencer, the Miami Herald,” Jones continued, naming off newspapers that have fallen on hard times financially. “They're over the same way as the record business. We have got to get into this century."
